The human brain remembers images far longer than words alone. Brain science now proves this. Visual processing takes up a large amount of brain real estate, making vision the sense that trumps all other senses, at least in the human species.
As trainers, we need to take advantage of this knowledge and, as much as possible, tie a visual image to the content we teach. We can use concrete images such as graphics, photos, and video segments to do this. We can also use image-rich instructional strategies such as stories, metaphors, anaologies, personal anecdotes, case studies, and the like. Finally, we can give learners time to create their own images so that they will remember what they've learned.
